We often call God Heavenly Father. Isaiah called Jesus Everlasting Father—God’s Son, our Father. There’s a thought to ponder! But I’ll leave it with you because I want to muse on having a Father who is everlasting—I think it means more than the eternal Father God who never began and will never end.
My meandering thoughts consider that not only do I have a Father who is forever alive, but so are all His attributes and blessings—His forbearance, mercy, care, patience, kindness, goodness, grace, love. Every part of God is everlasting. This stretches my mind because my best, most loving, good moments are just that, moments—maybe minutes or, on a good day, hours. Everlasting isn’t on my radar.
But God… God never wavers, never stops, never distances from us for a day, not for a second. Our promise of eternity rests in Him being the Everlasting Father. He is the author of our lives, temporal and eternal. There is never a day I am (or will be) without my Father. He will not be off doing His own thing or taking care of business—He’ll be with me, with you, with each of us.
I scarce can wrap my head around that kind of consistent faithfulness and unwavering love! But I am exceedingly grateful for it.
Your love never fails
It never gives up
It never runs out on me
Because on and on, and on, and on it goes
Before it overwhelms and satisfies my soul
