Small part, great power: E—Exercise

When our daughter Stacey was young she required exercises to correct a tongue thrust. She hated them. Her speech therapist gave her tiny rubber circles she had to hold on the roof of her mouth with her tongue. Exercise would correct the forward thrust of her tongue, benefitting her speech and appearance. Tongue exercises will do the same for us.

- Taste the goodness of God. To make a decision to turn away from tempting delights and eat from God’s provision.
- Offer our presence, help, services to bless others. This is not automatic but a conscious decision.
- Negate negativity and refuse to let criticism and complaints roll off our tongues. We exercise to change our mind set.
- Glorifying God is also a decision and the more we exercise praise the more reflexive it will become.
- Uttering wisdom takes intentionality, exercising our minds to absorb and honor truth, to meditate on God’s words, and to speak it with confidence.
- Exercise will strengthen our ability and shape our habits to bless God, benefit others, and enrich our live.
Stacey resisted her tongue exercises, but they paid off. Exercising our tongue will pay off in our lives as well. We will become more controlled, be a greater blessing, and appear more beautiful as we reflect God’s grace.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Eph. 4:29
