Worship is Endless

Elements of Worship, 6 of 6
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels… In a loud voice they were saying:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom
and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Rev. 5:11-12
The thought of singing forever in Heaven does not entice me. I’m not a singer… but I am a worshiper. I just returned from a weekend in the Catskills and what I saw evoked worship. I was awed by the magnificence of the mountains, the numberless shades of green, and the movement of shifting shadows contrasted against a blue-blue sky cluttered with cottony clouds. I didn’t break out in song—I was speechless.
The same happens when I smell the sweet breath of a newborn and feel the softness of her skin, the fluff of her hair. Or when I stand before raging waves pounding the shore, proclaiming God’s faithfulness. Or when the Spirit gives me fresh insight into a familiar passage or an author unfolds truth with inspired revelation. My sense of wonder raises a question, if I am awed into silence on this tainted earth, how will I respond in Heaven?
When I breathe pure air, see colors new and varied, hear sounds that quicken my senses, smell unique fragrances, and savor vibrant, fresh tastes, my heart will swell with worship. And when I behold the Creator of all I see, hear, and sense and meet the Lover of my soul, how will I respond? MercyMe captures my quandary in their song, “I Can Only Imagine.”
Surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
To my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
Heaven will not be like a weekend in the mountains, or a day at the shore, or the moments holding a newborn. Fresh discoveries, wondrous beauty, new revelations, and the physical strength and mental acuity to enjoy it all will be endless. The wonder will never cease… and neither will our worship.
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Rev. 5:13b
